Yes, Marketplace health insurance premiums can be tax-deductible in certain situations:

  1. Self-Employed Individuals:

    • If you are self-employed and pay for your own Marketplace health insurance, you may be able to deduct the full cost of premiums as an adjustment to income on Schedule 1 of your Form 1040, even if you don’t itemize deductions.

  2. Itemized Medical Deductions:

    • If you're not self-employed, you may still deduct your Marketplace health insurance premiums as a medical expense—but only if your total qualified medical expenses exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and you itemize deductions on Schedule A.

  3. Premium Tax Credits:

    • If you receive Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTC) to lower your monthly payments, you can only deduct the amount you actually paid out of pocket, not the portion covered by the credit.
